Regional Project Advisor for Asia Pacific

Anthony Foronda is the Asia Pacific Regional Project Specialist of the UNDP-GEF Global ABS Project that promotes the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol in 24 countries.

Anthony is the Regional Project Specialist for Asia Pacific of the UNDP-GEF Global ABS Project. He is based in the Philippines and is providing direct support to 4 UNDP COs of the project (India, Myanmar, Mongolia and Samoa) and the national partners covered by the Project in the implementation of operational and technical activities. Last year, he extended his technical advisory support to a national ABS project for UNDP-Cook Islands .

Anthony previously served at the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (2011-2017) as a Programme Specialist who is in-charge of building the capacity of 10 ASEAN Member States (AMS) plus Timor-Leste on thematic areas such as access and benefit-sharing (ABS), and climate change and biodiversity, among others. He has provided technical experience and support to countries on ABS in Asia-Pacific through collaborative work with the SCBD, IDLO, Bioversity International, FAO, UNCTAD, UN Environment, GIZ, ABS Capacity Development Initiative, and the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Products Engineering, a Graduate Diploma and a Master’s degree in Environmental Management and Development. He is also a member of the Project Management Institute and Toastmasters International.
