¿What is the Global ABS Community?

As  responsible party of the UNDP-GEF Global ABS Project, United Nations Volunteers is in charge of implementing the Global ABS Community, the community of practice on ABS.

This initiative provides project and non-project countries with an enabling environment to identify, collect, generate, share and uptake experiences and knowledge from the implementation of ABS and the Nagoya Protocol at the national levels based on a global cooperation framework.

The platform is opened to all actors interested in exchanging experiences and sharing knowledge based on ABS-oriented initiatives that contribute to the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol and ABS.

In the Global ABS Community, member can access a variety of ABS content, ranging from case studies, infographics, webinars, online trainings and testimonials, among others. Users can benefit to be part of a global network of ABS experts and practitioners that support the dissemination of content with the final aim to generate capacities in the ABS thematic. Most importantly, members can SHARE with local, regional or global participants information related to the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit Sharing promoting a global cooperation framework on ABS.

The Global ABS Community is currently divided into four main thematic areas:

  • Legal Frameworks: topics related to regulations, ABS-CH, GR monitoring, intellectual property and synergies.
  • Private Sector & Industries: topics related to business models, value chains & ABS, industries and contracts.
  • Sustainable Development Goals: topics related to GR marine, gender and other linkages between ABS and SDGs.
  • Traditional Knowledge: topics related to indigenous peoples & local communities and other sub-themes under IPLCs.

Additionally, the Global ABS Community intends to pool its efforts with other platforms and initiatives that promote knowledge-sharingopened to government institutions, private sector entities, research and academic institutions and international organizations, among others.Join the Global ABS Communty
